A.P.
Construction has completed numerous green construction projects
and is continuously working with owners to plan new green
structures. We believe improving environmental performance
is responsible business practice and will increase A.P. Construction’s
value, value to our clients and aid in preserving the environment
for future generations.
We
have strong experience supporting our clients with their
environmental sustainability efforts and with the installation
of “green” systems
and materials. Geothermal heat pump systems can reduce energy
cost up to 40% and were included at SoundWaters’ headquarters
in Stamford, CT, Greenwich Audubon Center and Darien Library.
Green construction materials such as cellulose insulation,
carpets made from recycled materials, low-e glass with Lutron
Daylighting systems, or lumber from sustainable forests have
been used in a variety of our construction projects.
DARIEN
LIBRARY
As Construction Manager for the all new Darien Library, we
worked with the design team to reach the goal of
attaining a LEED Gold rating. Construction was completed in January
2009. Some of the key elements included in this design are:
HVAC:
A four well geothermal system with heat pumps. Each well
is 6” diameter and goes
into the ground 1500 feet. It is anticipated that it will reduce
their annual energy cost from $50,000/yr to $30,000/yr. This
design eliminates the need for a boiler and cooling tower.
Sitework/Landscaping: Native Xeriscape plan with irrigation
only at grass areas. All retention/absorption to occur on-site.
Plumbing: Efficient use of water includes the installation
of low-consumption urinals. Renewable Energy/Green Power
will be achieved through the installation of photo voltaics.
NOKIA
CORPORATION
As Construction Manager for Nokia’s new U.S. headquarters,
we installed “green” systems including low-e clear
glass with a Lutron Daylighting system; complete energy management
system for HVAC, hot water and lighting systems; locally available
stone flooring (bluestone); recycled rubber tire carpet in
hallways.
Construction debris was 100% recycled.
GREENWICH
AUDUBON CENTER
Green construction concepts used throughout included the following
materials from recycled sources: cellulose insulation, sheetrock,
and rubber flooring. All lumber, including material for roof
shingles, beams, studs, flooring and millwork, was acquired
from companies using sustainable forestry practices. Heating
system used geothermal closed loop technology with 24 wells.
Well water engineered with sophisticated treatment system.
